Globally, only 35% of girls enter further education in STEM subjects. In Nigeria, women make up just 22% of the total number of Science, Engineering and Technology university graduates each year. Data from the World Economic Forum shows that, across industries, many job roles will be significantly based on and enhanced by the use of technology. Without the technical and creative skills to work in and thrive in these industries, women will be shut-off from these important economic opportunities.
Our Keeping Female in STEM project help to intervene to combat stereotypes and close the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) gender divide. We equip unemployed graduates with STEM skills to prepare them to contribute meaningfully to the digital economy. The COVID-19 has acted to exacerbate existing inequalities and vulnerabilities raising renewed concerns about the gender digital divide in Nigeria, we train unemployed female graduates on Software Development, Product Management, UX/UI, Data Science, Business Analysis,Product Marketing and Mobile App Development.
